1. Open up Photoshop and make a new 100px by 100px document
2. Fill the background with a barely there color. I chose #f9f9e8
3. Copy your chosen picture into the document.EDIT> FREE TRANSFORM> desired size
4. Select the Polygonal Lasso Tool: and carefully cut around the figure in your picture. Hit Ctrl + C on your keyboard. Then Ctrl + V
5. Look over to your Layers Window, right click on the second top layer > DELETE LAYER
6. Now create a new layer and drag it under your top layer. Change your color pallette to a slightly darker color than the background. Add any brushes you wish to this layer!
7. Again, create a new layer. This time, drag it to the top. Use my brush or draw your on squares and add it in
8. Click on Paint Bucket Tool: and alternating to different colors, click each square to fill them in. Try out different patterns, and you can even leave some black like I did:
