Sick of Iframes, CSS, positioning codes on EVERY SINGLE page?! Trust me: PHP coding is a life (and time) saver. It is actually easier to learn than you might think! Please note that only sub-domains and domains may work with PHP. Think of PHP as a sandwich. You've got the top bread slice (header), the filling of meat, lettuce, whatever (body) and then you've got your bottom slice (footer).
1. Let's start with the header. This is the only file you will ever need to edit when changing layouts! Open up a blank Notepad document and paste this in:
2. All that goes in the code above is just your layout URLs: layout image, CSS, background, sidebar. Go right ahead and edit as you please. The last 'div' code will effect positioning of the page content (body) Done? Save this document as "header.php" Ensure that the file type is set to All Files [example]
3. Now onto the footer! Again, open a new Notepad document. This will contain all closing codes and anything you wish to place at the bottom of each page. Save as "footer.php"
4. Upload the two files we just created to your FTP. Copy and paste put this bit on the first line or top of every page on your site. Remeber to remove the stars so that no space appears between the bracket and question mark
5. Place this code at the very bottom of every page. Again, remove the stars.
6. Your pages should now look something like mine (without the stars, though):
7. Finally, to make it all work and fully functioning: you must go through ALL of your pages ending in ".html" and change it to ".php" Secondly, without the iframes anymore, take out the target="iframe" in ALL your links.
8. Upload the .php pages you just changed, to FTP and you now have a PHP coded site! Hope this helped and remeber to credit =]
