downloading fonts

Want new fonts to jazz up your work? The downloading process is quite lengthy, so read closely. To get a font you don't already have onto your computer, you must first go to a font site. It could be any, but I prefer dafont & will use it for my tutorial here. You can search for a specific font you would like or browse through the categories to see which you like best!

1. Once you are satisfied with your font selection, you need to download it. Do this by clicking on a button that looks like the one below. Choose either PC or Mac OS X, whichever server you use.

2. A window will pop up (like this one) confirming your download. Select the Save to Disk option and press OK.

3. Minimize your Internet window & go to your desktop. Appearing as the last icon should be a compressed zip font folder.

4. Double click on the icon to open. On the left, there are a list of "Folder Tasks" Select "Extract all files."

5. A wizard window will come up: Continue pressing NEXT until you reach here. At this point, your extraction is complete. If the 'show extracted files' box is not already checked off, then select it. Click Finish! You're almost done...

6. Your extracted files will open in a new window. There should be two files; the license and the TIF Image. Drag the TIF Image file onto your desktop.

7. Now go to Start>>Control Panel

8. In your control panel, click on the first item on the list which should be Appearances and themes:

9. Once you are directed to Appearances and Themes, look over to the See Also list (left) and select "Fonts" (Example)

10. A fonts window will appear. Minimize it and go back to your desktop. Press and drag the TIF Image file into your fonts window. If you are unsure what I am talking about, click here.

11. Finally, a little box will come up:

12. Wait for it to finish loading. Do not click cancel. It will automatically close when installation is complete. Now you can use your new font for projects, blends, graphics, anything!!

NOTE: You may delete the compressed zip folders for your font on your desktop. Don't worry, it will not delete the font itself. If you wish to keep it for back-up that's fine too :P
