making PSD's

PSD's are very simple to do but take a fair amount of time and practice, so follow along closely! There are two ways to make a PSD. The first one is easier but doesn't necessarily work on all pictures. The second one takes some patience but is my most preffered way to making PSD's. It's more accurately cut and works on any picture no matter what!

PSD CUTTING #1

1. Here's a photo of Ashley Tisdale I will be working with for this tutorial. Make sure the image you are cutting has a simple, one colour tone background

2. Once opened in Photoshop, your layer will be locked so go to Layer>> Duplicate Layer. Then, delete the base layer.

3. Select the magic wand tool: and adjust your settings to match mine. Every picture is different so feel free to play around with the Tolerance. The bigger it is, the less specific the wand will select

4. Click anywhere in the background of your celebrity. A floating line going all around should appear like mine

5. Press Delete on your keyboard. BAM!

6. Saving 'File Type' must be in PNG Format [example] to keep the transparent background. Check out my end product =)

PSD CUTTING #2

1. The next way to cutting PSD's is for photos with a little more complex backgrounds. I will be using this Lilly Allen capture to explain cutting PSD's #2

2. Right click the Lasso Tool>> Polygonal Lasso Tool

3. Using this, click & drag your mouse around the outline of the entire image until you are back at the very beginning. Zoom in if it helps [example]

4. A floating line should appear when you're done [example] Press Ctrl + C on your keyboard or Edit>> Copy

5. Now go to File>> New

6. Press and Hold Ctrl + V on your keyboard or Edit>> Paste. Your PSD will not appear transparent yet. So in your layers menu, delete the white background [example] Your figure should now be on a checkered base (meaning it's transparent)

7. Don't forget saving 'File Type' must be in PNG Format:
