Ever wondered how people get an image all black and white with just a selected area in colour? In this tutorial, I'll show you how!
FROM THIS: TO THIS:
1. Start by opening your image in Photoshop. In the toolbar, double click on the Quick Mask Code (on the right)
2. A window should pop up. Adjust all settings to match mine:
3. Then, select the brush tool. A regular round one will do.
4. Using your Paint Brush tool, carefully paint over the area you want to remain coloured. Zoom in if that helps! You have done it correctly if your canvas looks something like this. My example is a bit messy since I did it quickly but in actuality, yours should be as neat as possible around the edges of your figure. Don't worry about the red, it will NOT show up when we're done. This is just to indicate that it has been masked.
5. Hit Q on your keyboard. This will create a floating line going around your selected area. [example] Now press Ctrl + C (Copy)
6. Hold Ctrl + V (Paste) on your keyboard. A new layer should automatically be created with the selected figure. You will not see a difference in your image.
7. Look over to your Layers Menu. If it's not already open, click Windows> Layers. Select the base image and go to Image> Adjustments> Desaturate.
There you have it! Your very own selective colouring image. Hope it turned out the way you wanted :P
